Bryan Torres homered and reached base three times in his first MLB game as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 in the opener of a doubleheader.
The 28-year-old outfielder and second baseman from Puerto Rico walked in his first at-bat and singled on the 10th pitch he saw before hitting a 337-foot home run off Jose Franco in the ninth inning at Great American Ball Park. Torres had spent 913 games in the minors, foreign leagues and independent ball before earning the call-up amid injuries to several Cardinals outfielders.
