Mexican actor Carlos Bonavides has publicly defended former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighting their achievements amid criticism. In an October 2024 interview, Bonavides called AMLO the best leader since Moctezuma's time and urged giving Sheinbaum a chance.
Carlos Bonavides, famous for his character Huicho Domínguez, has repeatedly voiced support for the Fourth Transformation project led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador and continued by Claudia Sheinbaum. This backing focuses on social programs like the Well-Being Pension for seniors, which the actor defends against criticism, such as from Laura Zapata, who suggested he collects it out of hunger.
In October 2024, while judging an imitation festival at Mexico City's Reclusorio Sur prison, Bonavides shared his political views. He expressed faith in the judicial overhaul: “I have a lot of faith that the people who will undertake this new transformation in the judicial aspect do it with all the affection, with all the love for Mexico. We know that unfortunately there are many people who want things to go badly for Mexico to prove that this administration has been bad”.
Bonavides praised López Obrador's term as that of “the best president we've had from Moctezuma, conquered by Hernán Cortés, to our days”, deeming him more significant than Benito Juárez given today's population and global context. He noted AMLO will retire with the same pension he receives from Morena.
On Sheinbaum, he called for judging her based on inherited challenges: high public debt, the pandemic, and deep errors from prior PRI and PAN governments, which he called “a seed sown by previous governments... that has now become a lush tree”. He dismissed dictatorship claims: “Saying we're in a dictatorship is the biggest stubbornness in the world”.
In a 2024 TikTok video, Bonavides showed collecting his pension at the Well-Being Bank: “Ladies and gentlemen, I'm at the Well-Being Bank, I came to collect the help that Morena gives me... Don't criticize”. He slammed past administrations for neglecting the elderly and praised the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) as a modern example, despite critics questioning its flights.
