Citizen launches two limited-edition Photon watches

Citizen has introduced two new limited-edition Photon models to mark the 50th anniversary of its Eco-Drive technology. The watches feature a new caliber with a 12-month power reserve and innovative light-inspired dials. Both are made from Super Titanium and limited to 5,000 pieces each.

Citizen unveiled two limited-edition Photon watches on the occasion of Eco-Drive's 50th anniversary in 2026. Eco-Drive, introduced by the brand in 1976, converts light—even indoor light—into electrical energy to power the timepieces, eliminating the need for battery replacements. The Photon name draws from the quantum unit of light energy, reflecting the technology's core principle and the dials' design, which simulates light passing through layered structures. The models are reference BJ6560-53W, with a silver Duratect titanium carbide coating, and BJ6569-59X, featuring black Duratect DLC and amber-yellow Duratect coatings for a two-tone effect. Each has a 39.6 × 9.9mm Super Titanium case paired with an integrated bracelet that includes a micro-adjustment clasp. A dual-curved sapphire crystal protects the dial, which consists of two superimposed metal plates with wave-shaped and circular cutouts over a textured, colored foil that shifts hues under light. Lume-filled hour and minute hands overlay the dial, with a gold seconds hand on the silver model and purple on the two-tone version. Powering both is the new in-house caliber E036, offering a 365-day power reserve on a full charge and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. The case back bears a 50th-anniversary engraving. Citizen plans to produce 5,000 units of each, priced at €895 for the silver model and €995 for the two-tone. Enthusiasts in the comments praised the designs for their modern appeal, value, and practicality as daily wearers, with some comparing them to higher-end brands like H. Moser.
