Daniel Pemberton collaborates with Brian May on Masters of the Universe theme

Composer Daniel Pemberton worked with Queen guitarist Brian May to create the theme song for the upcoming Masters of the Universe film. The track titled Electrica draws on 1980s pop and rock influences.

Daniel Pemberton said he joined the project only after director Travis Knight agreed to a Queen and ABBA-inspired score. During early recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios in London, Pemberton met Brian May, who contributed his Red Special guitar to the recording. The resulting three-minute ballad features a 100-piece choir, an 80-piece orchestra, a rock band and synthesizers. Pemberton described the piece as aiming to make a grown man feel like a boy again while delivering the weight of hard rock mixed with pop camp. The film, directed by Travis Knight, stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor. It is set on the planet Eternia and preserves the playful tone of the original 1980s property. Pemberton composed the full 140-minute score across 35 tracks in a maximalist style that he said remains sincere rather than ironic.
