The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has started work on a new 12.3 km underground corridor linking Inderlok and Indraprastha. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the project on Thursday. The extension forms part of the Magenta Line and aims to improve connectivity across the capital.
Construction of a diaphragm wall has begun at Sarai Rohilla Metro Station as the first phase of the project. The corridor will include 10 underground stations and connect with multiple existing lines including the Red, Green, Yellow and Blue Lines.
The work was approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone. Once complete the Magenta Line will stretch nearly 89 km and become the longest in the DMRC network.
Gupta said the expansion represents a historic step toward safe, fast and environment-friendly public transport. The corridor is expected to serve key sites such as New Delhi Railway Station, India Gate and the National War Memorial.
