Egypt calls for stronger Africa-South Korea development ties

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty urged deeper cooperation between South Korea and Africa during a ministerial meeting on Monday, highlighting opportunities in infrastructure, technology and security.

Abdelatty spoke at the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting in a session on economic cooperation. He said the partnership could model mutual benefit and called for joint work on industrialisation, energy, food security and water security.

Africa holds strong growth potential from its resources and young population, he noted. Abdelatty also backed reform of global financial institutions and the UN Security Council under the Ezulwini Consensus.

On the sidelines he met officials from Algeria, South Sudan, Somalia and Kenya. He condemned Somaliland’s planned embassy in Jerusalem and invited firms to the Alamein-Africa Business Forum later this month.
