Egypt reviews progress on renewable energy projects with AMEA Power

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held talks with a delegation from UAE-based AMEA Power to review progress on renewable energy and battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 1,500 MW.

The meeting focused on recent developments in solar and wind power projects along with connected and standalone battery storage systems totaling 2,100 MWh. The initiatives span sites in Zaafarana, Ras Shukeir, and Benban as part of Egypt’s plan to raise the share of clean energy to 45 percent by 2028.

Officials reviewed the status of operating facilities, including the 500 MW Kom Ombo solar plant in Aswan with its 300 MWh battery system and the 500 MW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez. Updates were also provided on the 500 MW Amunet 2 wind project and the 1,000 MW Abydos 2 solar project now under development.

Both sides stressed the need to meet implementation schedules and speed up grid connections. Esmat reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding renewable resources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
