Alaa Farouk, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated that financial dues owed to wheat farmers and suppliers will be disbursed within a maximum of 48 hours. The government has raised the wheat procurement price to EGP 2,500 per ardeb for the current season. Locally produced wheat receipt begins on April 15 and continues until August 15.
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, issued a statement on Tuesday affirming the state's commitment to supporting Egyptian farmers, boosting agricultural production, ensuring fair returns, and raising income levels. The government raised the wheat procurement price to EGP 2,500 per ardeb this season, following directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to aid farmers.
The ministry targets procuring around 5 million tonnes of locally produced wheat, with cultivated areas exceeding 3.7 million feddans—an increase of 600,000 feddans from last year. Farouk noted that research efforts have improved productivity to an average of 18 to 20 ardebs per feddan through better seeds and modern practices.
He directed the Agricultural Mechanisation Sector to prepare machinery for mechanical harvesting and provide threshing equipment at reduced costs to cut post-harvest losses. The minister instructed agricultural directorates to simplify procedures, offer technical support nationwide, and establish sub-operation rooms linked to the ministry's central room for real-time monitoring of harvesting and supply.
These measures aim to facilitate swift crop transport to silos, prevent congestion, and maintain market stability, with intensified field visits by officials and extension teams to ensure compliance and smooth operations.
