Egyptian minister meets CSGI to plan 45 percent renewable energy mix

Egypt’s electricity minister met with a delegation from China Southern Power Grid to explore grid upgrades and reach a 45 percent renewable energy share within two years.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held talks with a CSGI delegation led by Vice President Gong Yu at the ministry headquarters in Abbassia. The two sides discussed network studies, energy planning, battery storage systems, smart distribution, and upgrades to transmission networks and control centres.

Esmat said support and modernisation are continuous processes to increase the grid’s capacity to absorb renewable energy and maximise the use of solar and wind resources. He directed officials to speed up studies for grid stability.

The meeting was also attended by Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company Chairperson Mona Rizk and Head of Operations Sectors Adel El-Omary. Solar and wind projects continue according to schedule as part of the shift to smart grids.
