Egyptian officials review preparations for seventh Egyptian-German joint economic committee

Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, first undersecretary of Egypt's Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and head of the Egyptian Commercial Service, met with German commercial counselor Miguel Seco and Maren Diale, president of the Arab-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, to review Egyptian-German economic ties and prepare for the seventh session of their joint economic committee. El-Sherif emphasized the strong bilateral relations and Germany's role as a key trade and investment partner. Bilateral trade reached about €5.5 billion in 2024, with cumulative German investments totaling €3 billion by February 2025.

In a recent meeting in Cairo, participants focused on strengthening economic ties between Egypt and Germany. El-Sherif highlighted the depth and strength of bilateral relations, stressing the strategic importance of partnering with Germany as a leading global economic power and a reliable technological ally. He expressed Egypt's ambition to expand mutual trade volumes and draw more German investments into its market.

According to the figures presented, trade between the two countries reached approximately €5.5 billion in 2024, while cumulative German investments in Egypt totaled around €3 billion by the end of February 2025. Currently, 1,738 German companies operate in the Egyptian market.

Discussions centered mainly on arrangements for the seventh session of the Joint Economic Committee, including coordination on proposed technical and economic topics for the agenda. El-Sherif described the committee as one of the most vital institutional mechanisms for boosting comprehensive economic and trade cooperation between the nations.

Preparations were also reviewed for the Egyptian-German Business Forum, set to occur alongside the committee meetings. Participants discussed ways to secure the involvement of prominent Egyptian and German firms, positioning the forum as a primary platform for broadening trade links and investment partnerships between the business communities of both countries.

For his part, German Commercial Counselor Miguel Seco voiced Germany's keen interest in the session's success, noting that it underscores the solid bilateral relationship and the increasing level of economic collaboration between Egypt and Germany.
