Ethiopia and Mozambique advance military cooperation agreement

Ethiopian and Mozambican military chiefs met in Addis Ababa to discuss upgrading their bilateral military cooperation agreement, with both sides stressing the link between regional peace and development.

On 30 May 2026, Ethiopian Chief of General Staff Field Marshal Birhanu Jula hosted a Mozambican delegation led by General Julio dos Santos Jane in Addis Ababa. The two sides reviewed their existing bilateral military cooperation agreement and discussed ways to elevate it.

Field Marshal Birhanu Jula noted the historical ties between the countries, rooted in Pan-Africanism, and said reliable continental and regional peace is essential for development. He called for joint efforts against terrorism and in cybersecurity.

General Julio dos Santos Jane said cooperation in training and other military fields would allow Mozambique to gain valuable experience. Major General Teshome Gemechu confirmed the talks set directions for future joint frameworks.
