Chilean ex-footballer Fabián Estay confessed in an interview to having dated actresses Ivonne Montero and Betty Monroe during his time at Club América. Estay described casual encounters that arose in his life surrounded by celebrities in Mexico. Despite the temptations, he emphasized his professional discipline.
Fabián Estay, a Chilean ex-player who suited up for Mexican teams like América, Toluca, Atlante, and Santos Laguna, shared personal details on the YouTube channel Secretos Del Vestidor. He admitted to brief romances with actresses Ivonne Montero and Betty Monroe, attributing them to the prestige his football career brought in Mexico, an environment full of entertainment figures.
Regarding Ivonne Montero, Estay recounted meeting her shortly after she finished her role as Rosa in the movie El tigre de Santa Julia. The encounter happened casually while he was running in Bosque de Tlalpan in Mexico City. "Suddenly there were trendy places: little bars, restaurants, or inaugurations of things," he explained about the pre-social media era, though his connection with Montero was more spontaneous. "I'm friendly, not handsome. And that friendliness, making a woman laugh," he said about how the relationship started. He now describes her as "very pretty, she's a very good friend of mine."
On Betty Monroe, Estay mentioned a short romance during a TV program collaboration with Ninel Conde and Ana La Salvia. At the time, Ana was dating Pavel Pardo, Ninel with Duilio Davino, and he with Monroe. "They're forcing me, I don't like talking about that kind of thing," he said reluctantly. He revealed taking her on a trip to Tulancingo in Hidalgo but limited details to "a few outings."
Estay stressed that, despite the profession's freedoms—morning trainings and free afternoons—he prioritized discipline. "I told you the badge made you handsome," he reflected on playing for América. "I didn't have fun. I had a good time but I was very responsible. I never skipped training," he added. His success allowed him to support his family's education, going from one aunt with a university degree to at least six members pursuing higher studies.
In his career, Estay played over 380 matches, scored 59 goals, and provided 5 assists, per Transfermarkt. He won two leagues with Toluca and one with Universidad Católica in Chile. For the Chilean national team, he earned 69 caps, scored 5 goals, and featured in five Copa Américas and the 1998 World Cup in France, where Chile exited in the round of 16 against Brazil.
