FECh board faces crisis over leaked chats with insults to students

Leaked WhatsApp messages from the FECh board show derogatory comments toward students at the Juan Gómez Millas campus of the University of Chile. President Laura Mlynarz and other members are named in the chats.

The leaked messages include phrases such as “Imagínense llegan los monos” and “Extingan JGM”. Students at the campus occupied the premises in May over mental health issues.

Isidora Velásquez, former finance secretary, resigned two weeks ago and denounced a hostile environment. She revealed she was forced to delete criticisms of the board.

FECh issued public apologies on Instagram. Student organizations called for a mobilization this Friday and a petition circulated to remove the current board.

This is the first FECh elected with minimum quorum after two years.
