FGR confirms investigation but rules out illicit conduct in FIFA dinner

The Fiscalía General de la República is maintaining an investigation into the FIFA dinner at Castillo de Chapultepec on June 10, though no illicit conduct has been found so far.

The Fiscalía General de la República confirmed it is investigating a complaint filed in June by researchers from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia.

The complaint questions the use of Castillo de Chapultepec for a private FIFA event and references possible violations of the Constitution, the Ley General de Bienes Nacionales and the Ley Federal sobre Monumentos y Zonas Arqueológicos, Artísticos e Históricos.

However, the FGR stated that the inquiries conducted so far have not established any conduct outside the law.

FIFA paid more than one million pesos for the venue, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum. The INAH had previously indicated that the event complied with applicable regulations and helped promote Mexican culture.
