Police in Tshwane arrested five suspects following a robbery at a jewellery store in Brooklyn on Wednesday morning. The suspects hijacked a vehicle to escape but were tracked down in Pretoria CBD. One security officer and three suspects were wounded by gunshots.
Five suspects, aged between 32 and 38, were arrested after robbing a jewellery store in a shopping mall in Brooklyn, Tshwane, on 18 March 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 09:50 am, according to Gauteng Police Spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko. One suspect entered posing as a customer and forcibly gained entry, while another damaged display cases as accomplices took jewellery items. The group then hijacked a vehicle to flee the scene from the mall. A joint operation by the SAPS Tshwane District Stabilisation Team and private security pursued and intercepted them in Pretoria Central CBD, leading to the arrests. During the confrontation, one security officer and three suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment. Sibeko stated: “A coordinated response by the SAPS Tshwane District Stabilisation Team, in collaboration with private security personnel, led to a pursuit and the suspects being intercepted and arrested in Pretoria Central CBD.” The South African Police Service confirmed the arrests via social media, noting the business robbery and vehicle hijacking.
