Foo Fighters rename album to avoid 'Wicked: For Good' conflict

Foo Fighters changed the name of their new album from 'For Good' to 'Your Favorite Toy' after it clashed with the title of the 'Wicked' film sequel. Frontman Dave Grohl explained the decision in a recent interview. The band released the album last month.

Foo Fighters' 12th studio album, initially set to be titled 'For Good' after its title track, underwent a name change. Dave Grohl told Radio X’s John Kennedy that he drew inspiration from the song's lyrics: “Get back, hear that boy/Someone threw away your favorite toy for good.” He said, “I wanted to call the record For Good because that song, ‘Your Favorite Toy,’ at first I called it ‘For Good.' It could have more than a few meanings.”The change became necessary following the November release of 'Wicked: For Good,' the second installment of director Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the Broadway musical 'Wicked.' Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film adopted its name from the musical’s penultimate number. Grohl noted, “I was so pissed,” before retitling the song and using 'Your Favorite Toy' for the album instead.Chu justified the film's title to Variety, saying, “Who wants a movie called Wicked: Part Two? … ‘For Good,’ we know, is like, ‘Where are we going with this movie? Let’s finish this thing.'” The album, announced in February, dropped last month. Grohl described the title track as “the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album.”The band has upcoming shows, including Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday, Bottlerock Napa Valley on May 23, and European dates followed by North American gigs through late September.
