Tournament officials at the French Open removed a spectator from the stands for excessive noise during a quarterfinal match on Tuesday night before allowing the fan to return later in the evening. The incident took place on Court Philippe-Chatrier while Jakub Mensik faced Joao Fonseca.
The match between the Czech player and the Brazilian drew large crowds of green-and-yellow supporters who created a loud atmosphere throughout the contest. Security intervened after one fan repeatedly disrupted play with excessive noise. Mensik secured victory with a score of 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 in two hours and 44 minutes to advance to the semifinals. Fonseca later commented on the role of passionate supporters. 'I love the fans, but I think there needs to be a bit of limit, a bit of respect,' Fonseca said. 'It’s not just that it distracts the other guy—it distracts me too.'
