Government mitigates Umrah pilgrims from Middle East airspace closures

The Indonesian government is taking mitigation steps to protect Umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia following airspace closures in several Middle Eastern countries due to heightened security tensions. The Hajj Affairs Office in Jeddah has formed special teams to assist affected pilgrims with flight schedule changes. Conditions in Saudi Arabia remain safe despite limited flights.

The Indonesian government, through the Hajj Affairs Office (KUH) in Jeddah, has responded swiftly to airspace closures in the Middle East triggered by escalating regional security concerns. These closures affect countries including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria, which have banned flight arrivals and departures. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, and Lebanon continue limited operations while maintaining heightened alert status.

Muhammad Ilham Effendy, Technical Staff for Hajj Affairs at KUH Jeddah, explained that they have established three teams working in shifts across three key airport terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (formerly Saudia), and the Hajj Terminal. "KUH has formed three teams working in three shifts and deployed to three airport points, namely Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (ex-Saudia), and Hajj Terminal. This step ensures optimal assistance and coordination for pilgrims affected by flight schedule changes," Ilham stated.

These measures aim to prevent delays or cancellations that could strand pilgrims at airports. KUH Jeddah is intensifying communication with airlines, travel organizers, and local partners in Saudi Arabia to find solutions for those delayed in returning home. The government assures that conditions within Saudi Arabia remain controlled and safe, with normal societal activities under enhanced standard security vigilance.

The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh urges Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia to stay calm, avoid panic, and monitor official updates from local authorities and Indonesian representatives. Ongoing coordination with relevant authorities ensures the security and comfort of Umrah pilgrims. KUH advises the public to rely solely on verified government sources and avoid unconfirmed information.
