Law enforcement agencies registered 148,063 narcotics cases in 2025, a 53% increase from the previous year, according to the Narcotics Control Bureau’s annual report released on Friday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the Narcotics Control Bureau Annual Report 2025 and the Vision Document on Drug Control (2026-2029) in New Delhi. The report showed that agencies seized 1,240 tonnes of narcotics worth ₹18,227 crore and made 183,675 arrests.
Shah said the government aims to make India drug-free by 2047. He outlined a three-year plan involving more than 40 ministries to target trafficking networks through enforcement, intelligence and rehabilitation measures.
State police forces accounted for 94.8% of the cases. The report noted four main trafficking corridors and a sharp rise in drone-based smuggling along the India-Pakistan border.
