Indonesia's DPR Legislation Body (Baleg) and the government have approved advancing the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) to a plenary session for enactment into law on April 21, 2026. The decision came during a Baleg plenary meeting on the evening of April 20, led by DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
The Baleg DPR plenary meeting took place on the evening of Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta. Attending were government representatives including Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas, Deputy State Secretary Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, and Deputy Manpower Minister Afriansyah Noor. All factions expressed approval after sharing their views.
"Next, we seek the meeting's approval on whether the results of the discussion on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill can proceed according to legislative processes. If approved?" Dasco asked. The response was unanimous: "Agreed."
Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan stated the bill covers 12 key points, including direct or indirect recruitment via P3RT (Domestic Worker Placement Companies), social security guarantees, vocational training, prohibition on wage deductions, and oversight by central and local governments involving neighborhood units. The bill comprises 12 chapters and 37 articles.
Dasco called it a gift for May Day and Kartini Day, fulfilling a 22-year DPR commitment. "Gift for May Day, Kartini Day," he said.
