IONNA partners with Circle K to expand EV Rechargeries

The IONNA charging network announced a partnership with Circle K to deploy Rechargeries at more than 350 locations across the US. The deal starts with 85 existing sites, with the first ones operational by year's end and further expansion in 2027. IONNA will manage Circle K's current chargers, enhancing them with amenities for EV drivers.

IONNA, a joint venture formed in 2023 by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota, plans to install 30,000 high-speed chargers nationwide by 2030. The company currently operates 108 locations equipped with 375 NACS and 658 CCS plugs, according to the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fueling Station Locator. This partnership accelerates growth by leveraging Circle K's existing infrastructure of 378 plugs at 93 stations, most of which will convert to Rechargeries featuring canopies, lighting, bathrooms, lounges, and food options. Nearly 200 additional sites are slated for future development. IONNA Chief Operating Officer Aaron Wolff stated, “We are honored that Circle K has recognized IONNA as a leader in the industry and entrusted us to serve their customers with the same care and commitment to excellence that they show now. Circle K’s scale, customer focus, and quality of location make them an ideal partner as we rapidly expand high-power charging where drivers already want to stop.” Circle K Vice President of Global eMobility Håkon Stiksrud added, “Partnering with IONNA enables us to scale high-power charging quickly at locations drivers already trust—combining fast, reliable charging with a great food and beverage experience. This partnership is an important step in preparing for the future, delivering not just charging but a complete retail experience that supports our customers on the go.” The retailer recently opened its first EV charging-only site near Gothenburg, Sweden. IONNA has similar deals with Sheetz, Wawa, and Casey’s to build out Rechargery sites amid ongoing permitting challenges for new installations.
