Former President Joko Widodo asked PSI to support the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration for two terms. Democratic Party chair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and PKB deputy chair Jazilul Fawaid said the idea was premature as the 2029 election remains distant.
The remarks were conveyed by Jokowi to PSI DPP chair Bestari Barus during a meeting in Solo on 17 June 2026. Bestari quoted Jokowi's instruction to maintain internal harmony and back the Prabowo-Gibran pair through two terms.
AHY responded at the Senayan parliamentary complex on 23 June 2026 that the 2029 contest is still far off. He stressed the Democrats' focus on the domestic economy, including safeguarding public purchasing power, creating jobs, reducing poverty, and narrowing inequality.
PKB's Jazilul Fawaid stated on 22 June 2026 that talk of two terms hinders public attention. He underlined that the current priority is to deliver on the ongoing government's programs and campaign promises.
Both leaders respected other parties' positions but urged national interests to take precedence over partisan ones.
