Koei Tecmo selected for new IP Fuji by METI

Koei Tecmo is developing a new intellectual property called Fuji. The project was chosen as part of a Japanese government initiative to boost cultural exports through video games.

Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry selected the project under its IP360 Initiative. The programme began in March to support new intellectual properties and expand Japan’s cultural reach worldwide.

Koei Tecmo described Fuji as a game that draws on the company’s experience with oriental-themed visuals and action games. The studio aims to create a worldwide hit and extend the IP into other media.

The project is codenamed Fuji and is expected to feature Japanese settings. Other Japanese companies including Konami, Sega, Square Enix and Arc System Works also received support through the same initiative.
