Lewis Hamilton received two penalties during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend that dropped him from a strong qualifying position to fifth in the final classification. Ferrari faced criticism over strategy and execution errors.
Hamilton qualified second at the Hungaroring but incurred a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri. This placed him fifth on the starting grid behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
During the race Hamilton crossed the line in fourth place. He received a five-second penalty for exceeding the pitlane speed limit by 0.1 km/h after releasing the limiter too early. The sanction dropped him to fifth behind Leclerc.
Former driver Ralf Schumacher described the result as a major disappointment on Sky Sports Germany. He said Ferrari failed to build on strong practice pace and called Hamilton into the pits at the wrong time.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur acknowledged multiple mistakes including the pitstop error. Hamilton later apologised for his post-qualifying attitude after the initial penalty.
