Mbadi gazettes ksh2.68 billion for water projects in 18 counties

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has gazetted Ksh2.68 billion in German-funded allocations for water and sanitation projects across 18 Kenyan counties for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The funding comes from KfW, the German Development Bank, under the Kenya Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme. Mbadi issued the allocations through a Gazette Notice dated 22 May under the County Governments Additional Allocations Act, 2025.

Kitui County receives the largest share at Ksh248.8 million. Twelve other counties, including Baringo, Garissa and Mandera, each get Ksh143.1 million. Bomet, Kericho, Kirinyaga, Kwale and Makueni receive slightly varied amounts.

The allocations target arid and semi-arid areas that cover over 80 per cent of Kenya's land. These regions support more than one-third of the population and 60 per cent of livestock.
