The duo of David McAlmont and Bernard Butler has announced an anniversary reissue of their debut album, 'The Sound Of McAlmont & Butler'. The expanded edition includes outtakes, demos, and remixes, set for release on September 18. Bernard Butler oversaw the remastering from original studio tapes.
McAlmont & Butler, comprising London-based vocalist David McAlmont and former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, first released 'The Sound Of…McAlmont & Butler' in November 1995. The album featured singles 'Yes' and 'You Do', blending jazz-inflected elements with classic pop. Despite critical acclaim, the duo split shortly after its launch due to tensions following an NME interview with McAlmont, before the record even hit shelves. They later reunited for a second album, 'Bring It Back', in 2002, along with a one-off single 'Speed' in 2006 and reunion concerts in 2014. Robbie Williams included 'Yes' in an NME 'British Pop' playlist last year. The new edition comes as a remastered 2LP and 2CD set, with Butler handling the work on original tapes and his longtime collaborator George Shilling managing mastering. The 2LP tracklist spans originals like 'Yes (Full Version)' and 'You Do (Full Length)' across four sides. The 2CD expands further on disc two with demos such as 'Yes (Demo)', 'You Do (Demo)', and outtakes including 'The Argument' from the 'Tonight' session. Pre-orders are available now ahead of the September 18 release.
