The Swedish Armed Forces are turning parts of the training area in Enköping into protected zones. This means barriers and access bans for the public on 275 hectares of forest.
The change comes against the background of the uncertain security situation. The command regiment in Enköping will receive more war units and conscripts. A NATO base is also being built on the garrison grounds. About 275 of a total of 1,000 hectares of forest terrain will become protected objects. The area will be surrounded by seven kilometers of fencing. Violating the access ban can result in up to two years in prison. Peter Edman, head of the command regiment's exercise and training department, says the measure is necessary to protect both civilians and operations. Tomas Tördahl, head of the guard company, warns against breaking the ban.
