Netflix has canceled the Duffer Brothers drama The Boroughs after one season. The decision came three weeks after the show's May 21 debut.
The streaming service ended the series due to modest viewership, according to Deadline, which first reported the news. Renewal discussions had included plans to film seasons two and three back to back, and a writers' room had already started work on new episodes.
Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the show followed a group of residents in a retirement community who unite against a threat. The cast included Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, and Clarke Peters.
Eight episodes were produced in total. The Boroughs was one of three projects from the Duffer Brothers released after Stranger Things concluded its run.
