Over 103,000 names removed from Puducherry's draft electoral rolls

The draft electoral rolls for Puducherry, following the Special Intensive Revision, show more than 103,000 names removed, reducing the total electorate to 918,111. This revision, part of a nationwide effort, identified deceased voters, those who shifted or were absent, and duplicates. Eligible individuals can file claims and objections until January 15, 2026.

The Election Commission of India published the draft electoral rolls for Puducherry on December 17, 2025, after conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This process, announced on October 27, 2025, aimed to clean up the voter lists ahead of potential assembly elections. In Puducherry, out of 1,021,578 distributed enumeration forms, 1,03,467 were uncollectable, leading to the deletion of over 103,000 names.

Puducherry's Chief Electoral Officer reported that the draft rolls now include 9,18,111 electors. The removals break down as follows: 20,798 deceased voters, 80,645 who were shifted or absent from their registered addresses, and 2,024 flagged for multiple enrollments, which will be retained at only one location per SIR guidelines. The largest number of uncollectable forms, 85,531, came from Puducherry district, followed by 17,936 in Karaikal. In Mahe and Yanam regions, there were 12,912 shifted or absent, 397 duplicates, and 4,627 deaths.

This revision is part of a broader exercise across five states and union territories—West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry—where 1.02 crore names were removed, shrinking the combined electorate by 7.6% from 13.35 crore to 12.33 crore. In Puducherry, Booth Level Officers verified details during the enumeration phase starting November 4, 2025, with a deadline of December 11.

The CEO emphasized that this is not the final list. Genuine electors can add or correct their details during the claims and objections period from December 17, 2025, to January 15, 2026. The final electoral rolls will be published on February 14, 2026. Political parties' Booth Level Agents have received lists for verification to ensure accuracy.
