Philippines and India strengthen collaboration on counterterrorism

The Philippines and India held the second Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism meeting in Manila on May 14 to enhance bilateral efforts against terrorism.

Assistant Secretary Marshall Louis Alferez of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs led the local delegation. Vinod Bahade, joint secretary of India's Counter-Terrorism Division, headed the Indian side.

The two sides exchanged views on national and international threat assessments. They also shared best practices on terror financing, misuse of cyberspace, and emerging technologies.

Delegations discussed possible activities including information sharing, tabletop exercises, and capacity building. The next meeting is scheduled for India in 2027.

The Philippines and India established a Strategic Partnership on August 5, 2025, which includes cooperation in defense and security areas such as counterterrorism.
