Spanish artist Quevedo has unveiled his third studio album, El Baifo, an independently released 14-track project deeply inspired by his Canary Islands heritage. The album explores themes of celebration, nostalgia, and personal reflection through collaborations with local and legendary artists. Quevedo shared insights into its creation in an interview with Billboard Español.
Quevedo follows his previous releases Donde Quiero Estar in 2023 and Buenas Noches in 2024 with El Baifo, which centers the Canary Islands as a core influence. “I believe the Canary Islands are a key point, and that anyone who understands where I come from also understands my career’s processes and stages much better,” he told Billboard Español. The title 'Baifo,' a local term for baby goat, also nods to 'GOAT' or greatest of all time, reflecting the artist's pride in his origins. He hopes listeners connect with his emotions and background through the record's varied moods, from festive energy to introspection. “I would love for people to feel what I feel when they listen to the album and to understand where I come from.” Tracks like “Al Golpito,” featuring Canarian group Nueva Línea, evoke family festivals and local celebrations. “Mi Balcón” offers a nostalgic slowdown, built on timple sounds and imagery of traditional Canarian balconies. “La Graciosa,” a merengue collaboration with Elvis Crespo, celebrates carnival traditions. “Elvis is a legend. He’s someone who knows our history; he’s been visiting the islands for years,” Quevedo said, calling the partnership a dream across generations. “Ni Borracho,” which topped Billboard’s Spain Songs chart, and “La Graciosa” both embrace island festivities. The album closes with “Hijo del Volcán,” featuring traditional group Los Gofiones, founded in 1968. Quevedo described it as a generational union and an honest reflection on his recent life adjustments and lingering anxieties.
