Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Mumbai Indians by two wickets in a tense last-over thriller in Raipur on Sunday, moving to the top of the IPL 2026 points table and eliminating their opponents from the playoff race.
Batting first after Rajat Patidar won the toss, Mumbai Indians reached 166 for seven. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took four wickets for 23 runs, including three in the powerplay that reduced the visitors to 28 for three. Tilak Varma scored 57 and Naman Dhir 47 in a recovery stand.
Chasing 167, RCB lost Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and Patidar early. Krunal Pandya, promoted to number five, scored 73 off 46 balls despite cramps. He fell in the closing stages, but Bhuvneshwar returned to hit the winning six off the final ball.
Patidar said after the match that his side had not deserved victory. “Our bowlers did a tremendous job to restrict them. That was easily chaseable, but to be honest, we didn’t deserve to win this match,” he said. “We should have chased that target easily.”
The result leaves RCB at the head of the table. Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are now out of the playoff contention. RCB next face Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur on Wednesday.
