Rhino has compiled a comprehensive collection of Joy Division concert recordings into a new box set titled Eternal (Live). The release comes as surviving band members prepare for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
The box set includes 16 complete live albums across 14 CDs and two DVDs. It features three full concerts released for the first time along with several others previously excerpted only in part.
Recordings span the band's career from a March 1 1979 show at the Hope and Anchor in London to the final concert on May 2 1980 at Birmingham's High Hall 16 days before Ian Curtis died. Audio sources mix sound desk recordings fan bootlegs and two previously released radio broadcasts from Paris and Amsterdam.
The set was mastered at Abbey Road Studios and includes a 16-page book with notes from Simon Armitage and photography by Anton Corbijn and Kevin Cummins. Two and a half hours of concert footage appear on the DVDs including a new edit of Joy Division - A Malcolm Whitehead Film.
