Ringo Starr credits broccoli for his anti-ageing secret

Ringo Starr, the former Beatles drummer, has shared his recipe for staying youthful: eating broccoli alongside peace and love. In a recent interview, the 85-year-old musician elaborated on his healthy eating habits while promoting his upcoming solo album. He also announced a summer tour and reflected on his role in forthcoming Beatles biopics.

Ringo Starr revealed his unique approach to combating ageing during an interview with Rolling Stone. When asked about maintaining his energy for recording and touring ahead of his 86th birthday in July, he said, “Well, you’ve got to eat more broccoli. All the good things about me, I blame broccoli for.” He added his signature twist: “So now I say, peace and love and broccoli.” Starr has long followed strict dietary rules, confirming last year on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he has never tried pizza or curry due to allergies. “You don’t know what the fuck’s in it,” he explained, noting that such foods make him ill immediately. The musician is set to release his 22nd solo album, Long Long Road, on April 24 through UMe. Produced by T-Bone Burnett, who also helmed last year’s Look Up, the record features St. Vincent, Sheryl Crow and Billy Strings. Its lead single, “It’s Been Too Long,” arrived last month. Starr praised Burnett, saying, “I’m blessed to have T Bone in my life right now... I’ve been on a long long road.” Starr will tour the US this summer with 12 shows from May 28 in Temecula, California, to June 14 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. In upcoming Beatles biopics, Barry Keoghan portrays Starr, with Mia McKenna-Bruce as his wife Maureen Starkey, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Keoghan recalled meeting Starr: “My job is to observe and kinda take in mannerisms and study him. I want to humanise him.”
