The Detroit Tigers' recent losing streak has intensified speculation that the team may trade ace Tarik Skubal before the Aug. 3 deadline. Multiple contenders are preparing to inquire about the two-time Cy Young winner.
The Tigers have lost three straight games and entered Tuesday at 50-57, four games out of the final American League wild-card spot. Their playoff odds have fallen below 25 percent.
Rival executives who had previously held back out of respect for Detroit's contention efforts are now planning to contact president of baseball operations Scott Harris. The Rays, Brewers, Braves, Yankees and Dodgers are among the clubs expected to show strong interest if Skubal is made available.
Skubal is 7-5 with a 2.70 ERA this season. He is set to reach free agency after 2026. Reports indicate the Tigers would require a young major-league starter and multiple prospects in any deal.
