Steve Sullivan named head coach of Toronto Marlies

Steve Sullivan has been appointed head coach of the Toronto Marlies, replacing John Gruden who moved to the Maple Leafs staff.

Sullivan was named to the position on Thursday. He returns to the American Hockey League club after serving as an assistant for two seasons and briefly helping the Maple Leafs power play.

Gruden accepted a role on Jim Hiller’s staff with the Maple Leafs. Sullivan, 51, from Timmins, Ontario, previously worked under new Toronto general manager John Chayka in Arizona.

Mark Giordano was also announced as a full-time assistant with the Marlies. The team released its 2026-27 schedule, with a home opener scheduled for October 3 against the Hamilton Hammers.
