Strategic plan trainings underway in Amhara region's towns

Training programs making residents of over 700 towns in Ethiopia's Amhara region users of strategic plans are underway. The Amhara region's Urban and Infrastructure Development Bureau states that these efforts are accelerating town development. The initiatives aim to align current urban growth with sustainable long-term progress.

In Ethiopia's Amhara region, training programs are serving 729 towns across regional, central, small towns, leader preparation, nucleus preparation, and guide town levels. Bureau head Mola Melaku (Dr.) noted that 90 percent of towns overall have prepared strategic plans. The regional Plan Institute is directing towns to develop their plans, with development accelerating as a result.

Legal adjustments are being made during town plan approvals, and a strategic plan preparation program is being implemented in towns that have received their plan periods. These plans are designed to align towns' current development with sustainable growth and ensure practical implementation across all regional towns.

Urban development in the region is increasing over time, with towns preparing plans that consider their natural resources and development potential. Emphasis is placed on green development, housing provision, sustainable base-preserving growth, food security assurance, and good governance to benefit future generations. Additionally, national corridor development works are being carried out in selected towns to enhance connectivity.
