On March 19, a McNairy County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to Selmer Elementary School in Selmer, Tennessee, following reports from two witnesses that an employee had attacked a child. According to sheriff's office records reviewed by Law&Crime, Meg Day grabbed the lower half of the boy's body and dragged him across a rug. Another employee observed the student reaching for his back and noted a blood red mark, while the school nurse later confirmed carpet burn. The principal and assistant principal were informed of the incident. Day was arrested and booked into the county jail on Thursday before being released. This case follows a similar incident days earlier at Selmer Middle School in the same McNairy County School District. Authorities reported that 65-year-old lunch worker Sequoia Ann Hively slapped a 15-year-old student on the back of the head, as captured on video. The student had no injuries after a nurse check, and the superintendent assured the student's father that Hively would not return until the matter was resolved. She was also released from jail.
