Tesla has rolled out software update 2025.44.25.5, introducing Car Wash Mode to the Cybertruck for the first time. This feature allows owners to safely use automatic car washes, which were previously not recommended. The update is part of the Holiday Update being sent to Tesla's global vehicle fleet.
Tesla began deploying the Holiday Update version 2025.44.25.5 to its vehicles worldwide, including the Cybertruck, as of December 21, 2025. Among the Cybertruck-specific additions are Automatic HOV Lanes Routing and the long-awaited Car Wash Mode, which previously made the Cybertruck the only Tesla model without this capability.
Prior to this update, Tesla advised against using automatic car washes on the Cybertruck due to the absence of a free rolling feature, which could lead to potential damage. Now, owners can enable the mode via the vehicle's touchscreen by navigating to Controls > Car Wash, provided the vehicle is stationary and not charging.
The Car Wash Mode performs several safety functions: it closes all windows, locks the charge port, and disables windshield wipers, Sentry Mode, and walk-away door locking. For automatic washes, users must select the 'Automatic Car Wash' option and tap 'Enable Free Roll' after pressing the brake pedal or shifting into Neutral. This keeps the vehicle in Neutral, activates free roll during the wash, and prevents the parking brake from engaging if the driver leaves the seat.
Additional options include folding or closing the tonneau cover—folding it exposes the truck bed for washing, while closing it allows the cover itself to be cleaned. The mode automatically disables if the vehicle's speed exceeds 9 mph (15 km/h) or if users touch 'Exit' on the touchscreen.
The updated Cybertruck Owner’s Manual warns: "Failure to put Cybertruck in Car Wash Mode may result in damage (for example, to the charge port or windshield wipers). Damage caused by car washes is not covered by the warranty."
This over-the-air update highlights Tesla's ongoing commitment to enhancing vehicle functionality through free software improvements, setting it apart from traditional automakers.
