Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler day to day with hand contusion

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler is considered day to day after suffering a right hand contusion in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Dingler left the 6-1 win after a foul tip from Jacob Wilson off a Troy Melton fastball struck the base of his right thumb. X-rays showed no structural damage, but swelling developed and forced him out.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Dingler wanted to stay in after initial warmup throws but was removed when the swelling increased. Jake Rogers replaced him and hit a two-run homer.

Rogers started at catcher on Thursday. The Tigers called up prospect Eduardo Valencia from Triple-A and designated Jahmai Jones for assignment to make room.
