Tompi's name has been buzzing on social media after he commented on Pandji Pragiwaksono's stand-up comedy routine touching on Gibran Rakabuming Raka's physique. Tompi viewed such jokes as unhealthy criticism, which led to accusations that he was defending Gibran for personal gain, such as pursuing a position.
Addressing the uproar, Tompi posted a clarification on Instagram @dr_tompi on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. "Biar gak keterusan bercandanya, sy kemarin ketemu wapres bukan dlm rangka nyari posisi jabatan atau jilat2an ????. Hanya meneruskan kegiatan rencana bantuan lanjutan ke aceh sumut padang," he wrote.
He detailed the meeting's agenda, involving colleagues like Raffi Ahmad and Melaney Ricardo.
