Two killed, four injured in Madhya Pradesh coal mine roof collapse

Two workers died and four others were injured when part of the roof collapsed at an underground coal mine in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district early on Friday.

The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. at the Bangwar underground coal mine operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited in the Sohagpur area. Workers were constructing a stopping wall near pillar number 45 when a section of the roof caved in. The deceased were identified as Ballu Baiga, 43, and Golu Baiga, 30. The injured workers, admitted to hospital, are Anjani Baiga, 38, Amit Kumar Yadav, 28, Premlal Vishwakarma, 39, and Rajkumar Yadav, 37. Police said an inquiry has been launched into the accident. The mine lies about 80 km from Shahdol district headquarters.
