Two men snatch gold chain from elderly woman near Sevvapet

Gajalakshmi, a 74-year-old resident of Perumalpattu near Tiruvallur, was walking to a nearby temple when two helmeted men on a motorcycle approached her near Sevvapet. They asked for directions to the temple, and as she responded, one of them snatched her five-sovereign gold chain, valued at around ₹6 lakh, from her neck.

Police confirmed the incident occurred early on March 29, 2026. The suspects fled on their bike, and no registration number was noted. Officers have registered a case and are investigating, including checks for CCTV footage in the area.

This robbery follows a pattern of similar chain-snatching incidents reported in the Chennai region recently, according to police.
