Kent singer and producer Venbee has launched her new observational single 'Not My Day', which has received endorsement from Lewis Capaldi. The track details everyday mishaps like struggling with a shopping trolley at Asda and a declined card at checkout. Capaldi shared a video of himself dancing to it on TikTok.
Venbee, whose real name is Erin Doyle, broke through in 2022 with her Top Three hit 'Messy In Heaven' and followed it with the mixtape 'Zero Experience' in 2023. The former NME 100 artist describes 'Not My Day' as a stream-of-consciousness piece reflecting a typical day gone awry. Directed by Dante Richardson, the song's video accompanies its release, highlighting Venbee's shift to more personal, fun musicmaking. The single namechecks Capaldi, and the Scottish singer demonstrated his support by posting a TikTok clip of himself grooving to the track. Venbee told NME that the song emerged after she parted ways with her label. “After being dropped by my label, I no longer felt the pressure of writing to please other people. So I started making music that felt care free, fun and more like me because I felt that I had nothing to lose and that’s kinda where ‘Not My Day’ came from,” she said. This release follows her energetic performances, including a four-star reviewed set at SXSW 2023.
