Vox has confirmed the definitive expulsion of its former secretary general Javier Ortega Smith after resolving his final internal appeal. The party also ratifies the expulsion of Madrid city councilors Ignacio Ansaldo and Carla Toscano, who backed him. The current municipal spokesperson now has only the judicial route left.
Vox's National Executive Committee (CEN), the party's top decision-making body, has resolved Javier Ortega Smith's appeal, confirming his expulsion. The disciplinary process began two months ago when the national leadership ordered his replacement as spokesperson in Madrid city council, which he refused to accept.
The party's Guarantees Committee had previously upheld the expulsion, exhausting internal appeals. Ortega Smith, a CEN member until December, stated his intent to appeal in court: "Lo voy a pelear donde puede haber algo de justicia, que es en los tribunales ordinarios."
The ruling also covers councilors Ignacio Ansaldo, holder of membership card number one, and Carla Toscano, who sided with Ortega Smith, outnumbering the two aligned with Santiago Abascal's leadership. Madrid city council must now decide whether to enforce the change and remove the trio from the municipal group, leaving it with Arantxa Cabello and Fernando Martínez Vidal, likely with Cabello as new spokesperson.
Ortega Smith retains his seat as a deputy in Congress, where he attended proceedings this Wednesday.
