ABC renews High Potential for season 3 as showrunner departs

ABC has renewed the drama series High Potential for a third season. Showrunner Todd Harthan is leaving the production to develop a live-action adaptation of Eragon at Disney+. A replacement showrunner will be announced later.

ABC's renewal of High Potential for season 3 ensures that the series, starring Kaitlin Olson as detective Morgan Gillory, will continue beyond its current second season, which airs Tuesdays at 9/8c. The cast also includes Daniel Sunjata as Adam Karadec, Javicia Leslie as Daphne Forrester, Deniz Akdeniz as Lev "Oz" Özdil, Amirah J as Ava Gillory, Matthew Lamb as Elliot Radovic, Judy Reyes as Selena Soto, and Steve Howey as Nick Wagner.

Todd Harthan, who has served as showrunner for the first two seasons, is departing to focus on the live-action Eragon project at Disney+. Details on his successor remain pending.

As season 2 progresses, viewers can look forward to key developments. Harthan shared insights with TVLine, noting a "big Daphne episode soon, like a big one." The series has previously explored Oz's family background and provided glimpses into Soto's personal life, but Daphne's off-duty world has been largely untouched until this upcoming installment.

Further, Captain Wagner is set to "re-enter the world in a pretty major way," leading to "some big twists and turns" for the characters. Harthan also teased "some pretty big Roman developments" alongside "a couple of really fun, splashy, amazing guest stars" and what he described as "some of our best cases, our most visceral cases."

The announcement comes amid ongoing episodes of season 2, maintaining momentum for the procedural drama centered on Gillory's high-IQ consulting role in solving crimes.
