Anne Hathaway has released a new track, “My Mouth Is Lonely for You,” written by her co-star FKA twigs for the upcoming A24 film Mother Mary. The song features contributions from producers Koreless, Xquisite Korpse, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Jeff Bhasker. This marks the second single from the film's soundtrack.
Anne Hathaway portrays a pop star in David Lowery's Mother Mary, an A24 production described as a “thrilling psychosexual pop opera.” In the story, her character reunites with an estranged friend and stylist, played by Michaela Coel, during preparations for a new tour. The soundtrack will be released on April 17 via A24 Music, coinciding with the film's limited theatrical debut, followed by a wider release on April 24, as announced by the production company. Pitchfork shared audio of Hathaway performing the track, highlighting her vocal performance on the fictional hit. This is the second song previewed from the movie, after “Burial,” which Hathaway co-wrote with Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and George Daniel. Hathaway has prior recording experience, including “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables and “Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)” from Río. FKA twigs, who wrote “My Mouth Is Lonely for You,” has appeared in films such as the 2019 drama Honey Boy, a remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow, the biblical horror The Carpenter’s Son, and the upcoming The Lonely Woman.
