Ayuso marks three years in office with sharp attacks on Sánchez over Zapatero case

Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso closed a Friday event marking three years of the PP regional legislature with sharp criticism of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, whom she linked to former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero following his indictment in the Plus Ultra case.

The event took place at Parque de Berlín in northern Madrid before PP regional councillors and members. Ayuso repeated that Sánchez “has united his destiny with Zapatero” and accused the government of being “the weakest and most corrupt in history”.

The Popular Party leader repeatedly called for a general election. “Sánchez is afraid to call elections and become a neighbour of Ábalos and Koldo, and all those who remain,” she said.

She also criticised Zapatero’s agreements with EH Bildu and warned that the executive “imports poverty and people who want to remain poor so they vote for them”. Her chief of staff, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, posted on X on Friday that Sánchez “is going forward” with privileged information on the case.
