Blizzard halts expansions for Overwatch Stadium mode

Blizzard has decided against adding new heroes or maps to the Stadium mode in Overwatch. The choice follows data showing the mode accounts for just three percent of daily players. Support will continue through balance updates and rewards.

Game director Aaron Keller shared the update in a Director's Take blog post. Stadium launched in 2025 as a build-based mode inspired by MOBAs. It allows players to customize hero abilities across rounds for exaggerated effects.

The mode draws a dedicated but smaller audience compared to standard play. Unranked role queue 5v5 leads with about 54 percent of players while ranked 5v5 follows at 37 percent. Stadium ranked and unranked each sit at three percent.

Thirty-three heroes received custom builds for Stadium. Blizzard will apply lessons from the mode to future projects instead of expanding it further.
