The Toronto Blue Jays came back from a five-run deficit to defeat the Chicago Cubs 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Daulton Varsho homered in his first game after returning from the injured list.
Activated before the game, Varsho delivered a diving catch in center field and a three-run homer in the seventh inning. His blast cut the Cubs' lead to 5-3 and ignited Toronto's rally.
Kazuma Okamoto followed with a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning. The Blue Jays scored five runs in that frame to complete the comeback from a 5-0 hole.
Manager John Schneider praised the team's resilience. "I love the way they battled," he said. Starter Patrick Corbin and relievers including Lazaro Estrada and Louis Varland kept the game within reach.
Varsho had been sidelined since June 12 with left wrist inflammation. His return added both offense and defense during Toronto's stretch of consecutive games without a day off.
